Never topping off the water tanks again. Fresh year round 50-degree water every time the animal drinks. Never finding, and removing that bloated critter floating around in the livestock tank. No moss or sunken tumble weeds. No open water for mosquitoes to breed in (equine encephalitis, zika virus). All in a device that takes up as much space in the pen as a potted plant. This all adds up to healthier animals and happier people. Your livestock will have fresher water than your house dog. Excellent choice for horse boarders or veterinarians with simple, quick disinfection and cleaning. No minimum number of animals, this waterer will stay frost free with just one or twenty animals using it. The Watering Post has been in the field for several years with excellent reception by owners. Please scroll down to see customer reviews. The Watering Post remains frost free in the same manner as the frost-free hydrant. By draining all water back below the frost line every time the paddle is released by the animal. Typically, less than 1 cup of water is drained back. More water will be wasted to evaporation in an open stock tank. Installation is no more complicated than installing a frost-free hydrant. No concrete pad required for installation. Built in shut-off valve makes maintenance very easy. All working parts can be removed, if required, in under a minute with just a standard screwdriver or a coin. Most animals figure it out in a couple hours or less. The mule in the video had it down pat in 5 minutes. Domestic deer have no problems with the Watering Post. Caution not recommended for sheep and goats. How atmospheric science can affect the health of your livestock: An open stock tank will evaporate around 1/2 inch of water in a 24-hour period during the summer months. That works out to 7.83 or almost 8 gallons per day on a standard 4-foot round stock tank. Of course, its no problem to replace the 8 gallons of water every day, which works out to 240 gallons per month, but it is impossible to remove the minerals left behind. When water evaporates only pure H2O is released into the atmosphere leaving behind all the salts and minerals. By the end of the summer the water in the stock tank will become very hard. Hard water is less palatable to the animal, so their consumption will be reduced. Hard water can also lead to health problems. The only way to bring the water in the stock tank back to its original softer condition is to completely drain, rinse and refill the stock tank at regular intervals. The rate of evaporation does slow during the winter months, but it continues right up to the point that the tank becomes frozen over. The design of the Watering Post eliminates water loss through evaporation. Water wasted to drain back of the Watering Post has been a concern to many prospective customers. Using the 4-foot diameter stock tank with an evaporation loss of 8 gallons daily, and the Watering Post drain back losses, we have calculated that the breakeven point between water loss from drain back and evaporation is 10 animals per Watering Post. If you have less than 10 animals per Watering Post, you are wasting less water to drain back than you would be to evaporation in an open stock tank. Water supply in the winter is often overlooked and limited. During the winter, when your livestock are not consuming fresh green vegetation, there water requirements will increase. Animals will shy away from water at temperatures of less than 40 or more than 70 degrees. Horses and electricity don’t mix. Your animals performance and general health will decline if not supplied with adequate water requirements. Disease vectoring animals are not able to get a drink and will not be attracted to the Watering Post the way they are to open stock tanks. Mosquitoes are not able to breed in the Watering Post. No standing water for birds to bathe and defecate in. When installed properly, the Watering Post will supply an unlimited amount of clean water at ground temperature year-round without any heat source. The main post is manufactured using 8 ID 5/16.312 wall PVC pipe (well casing). This is very durable pipe and will stand up to kicks and pawing from livestock. The remainder is manufactured entirely from PVC, Brass, EPDM, stainless steel or. The bowl is vacuum formed using heavy Kydex and remains pliable and break proof in subzero conditions. What about the Watering Post makes it superior to similar watering systems on the market… The Watering Post has a built-in shut off valve for ease of installation and maintenance. Quick and easy maintenance. The Watering Post is hands down the simplest system to maintain. All working parts can be completely removed in a few seconds, without tools, for cleaning or repairs. When the wind chill is 20° below zero, time matters… The Watering Post comes with everything you need except the potable water line a hole in the ground and rock for drainage. Concrete pads are not required or recommended for installation. The system does not rely on being perfectly level the way float operated systems do. The Watering Post does not have optional accessories, they are not needed. Others sell optional accessories such as ice protection collars, training paddles, heaters etc… The Watering Post will work as supplied through the worst winter without additional equipment or special lubrication of hinge points. Small drain field requirement. The Watering Post has been designed to have the least amount of drain back and little to no overflow. 99% of animals don’t like to have their nostrils in the water. The Watering Post bowl is deep enough so that they stop pushing the paddle before it overflows. Also, the flow has been regulated down to not provide water faster than an adult horse can drink, to reduce over topping of the bowl. If the bowl does over top it ends up in the rock drain and not on the ground around the Watering Post. When the animal stops pushing the paddle the bowl slowly drains allowing them to drink the last bit of water. Others recommend tires or heavy pipe to protect the system from pawing animals. I’m a Michigander so winters are always a pain pulling frozen hoses in and not to mention the electric bill lets just say… Winter finally broke here in PA and we are ready to install some more watering posts. A little story from this awful winter we just had. We have frost free hydrants in all the deer pens. We have watering posts in 2 of those pens. We had repeated spells of below zero temps with 20-30 below wind chills. We had 3 of our hydrants freeze so hard that they just finally thawed here in the last month!! THE POSTS DID NOT FREEZE!! Gotta tell you we were very impressed. Because of the way a couple of our pens are set up, Josh was going to put Ri–ie waterers in those pens, but because of how impressed we were with the posts in the prolonged subzero weather we have decided to go with all watering posts! They are almost maintenance free now, and it’s a good thing because I broke my right arm a few weeks back and still not fully recuperated so John is doing all horse care — and yes, he has said several times that the hard work of installing the post is definitely paying off now.
