Fire Branding Iron Set Stainless Steel 6 0-8 Numbers Cattle Identification

Complete Set of Hot Branding Irons 6 Numbers 0-8 (6 is reversed for 9) Stainless Steel Stone Brand The open backed design makes clear legible brands. Precisely formed stainless steel numbers are 3/16″ thick and 1″ deep. Overall length is 36. BRANDING TIPS FOR STAINLESS STEEL FIRE BRANDS A properly applied, legally recorded brand is proof of ownership. It will increase the chance of your recovering stray, missing, or stolen livestock manifold and will serve as a great deterrent to theft as well. A good brand eliminates many markets and outlets where a rustler may dispose of an animal. Heating the Iron Using either a bed of coals or bottled gas, the iron should be heated until it is gray in color. If it is black, it will be too cold and wont burn deep enough. If it is bright cherry red it will burn too deep, possibly leaving a hard sore and a blotched brand. The iron must be hot enough to remove hair and the outer layer of skin. Applying the brand 1. Normally, applying the iron 3-5 seconds will be sufficient to obtain a permanent brand. If the cattle to be branded are carrying extremely long hair, they should be clipped. Be sure to press firmly and rock the iron slightly to get a uniform brand. Do not brand animals that are damp or wet as it will result in scalding rather than burning and in most cases a blotched, slow-healing sore. Restrain the animal to be branded as securely as possible to prevent their moving and causing a blotched brand. Do not brand over an existing brand. Id necessary, place your brand in front, behind, above or below an existing brand but as close as possible to your registered location as possible. There should be only one application of the iron. If it is necessary to retouch the brand, do so with extreme care to avoid blotching. A properly applied brand should be the color of saddle leather when the iron is removed. Care of the Irons 1. Keep your irons free of carbon buildup caused by scale and burnt hair. A bucket of sand or a wire brush at the branding table will aid you in this chore. When you are through branding, the irons should be cleaned and reshaped by using a file or rasp and then be stored in a container of oil. Your brand should be as simple as possible. Avoid intricate patterns which produce sharp corners, as a concentration of heat will cause the brand to burn out and blotch. Sharp edges should be avoided or filed off. Do not use thin or burned-up irons as they will cut deep into the hide and leave a thin scar which will cover with hair. Freeze Branding Iron Brass Set 3 0-8 Numbers Cattle Identification Brand

Heavy brass construction maintains proper temperature to brand more stock effectively in less time. In freeze branding, a super-cold branding iron, chilled in a mixture of liquid nitrogen or dry ice and alcohol, is applied to the animals hide, killing the pigment-producing cells. Freeze branding is a technique in which a supercold branding iron, properly applied to the animals hide, kills the color pigment producing cells. The result is that white or colorless hair instead of colored hair, grow at the brand site. Freeze branding is effective on both cattle and horses along with dogs. One advantage of freeze branding is that it produces a readable brand at any time of the year. The skin of the animal contains millions of hairs which make up the animals coat. Figure 1 is an enlarges, simplified drawing of one hair shaft with its color (pigment) producing follicle (CF) and its growth follicle (GF), both shown below the skin. Under normal circumstances hair grows as a clear shaft (like a clear straw) from the GF. On colored animals, pigment black, brown, red, yellow etc. Is added from the CF below the skin to the clear hairshaft, which gives the hair its color. When the intensely cold iron used in freeze branding is placed on the skin for the correct time and at the correct pressure, the cold temperatures destroys the CF’s at the brand site so they no longer can produce pigment; however, the hair still continues to grow for the GF’s. The result is that hair at the brand site contains no pigment and appears white. This is the desired result-a uniform, white brand. If the iron is pressed to the skin for a shorter period of time and/or with less pressure that required, some hairs grow in colored and some hairs grow in white, so the brand has a streaked appearance. If the iron is held on a longer period of time, the cold destroys the GF’s as well, so that no hair grows at all. On light colored animals the bald is desirable because the dark skin with no hair shows up better that a white brand. Things you will need: Holding chute or some other positive device to keep the animal from moving Container large enough so the irons can stand upright when the heads are submerged in the coolant Coolant-Dry Ice and Alcohol or Liquid Nitrogen Electric clipper (surgical blade preferred) Grooming brush for cleaning the brand site Gloves Stopwatch Squirt bottle. Cattle Cow Bull & Heifer Rice Pelvimeter Instrument Pelvic Measurement Calving

Pelvimeter Rice Used to measure the pelvis size of the female to determine which bulls to breed with, potential calving problems, selecting replacement heifers, and determining your breeding stock. In recent years, the Rice Pelvimeter has also been used to determine bulls pelvic area and aids the rancher in determining which bulls and heifers to breed. Comes with instructions for taking measurements, and charts showing the relationship between pelvic size/calf weights to dystocia. The best time to measure pelvic areas in heifers is prior to their first breeding season when heifers are 12 to 14 months of age. Based on research, ratios have been developed that give an estimate as to what size calf a heifer could deliver at two years of age without assistance Pelvic area measurements can also be taken at the time of pregnancy examination and even prior to the time of calving, but the division factors to determine deliverable calf size increase with age. The item “Cattle Cow Bull & Heifer Rice Pelvimeter Instrument Pelvic Measurement Calving” is in sale since Wednesday, August 28, 2019.
